Organizational Perspectives- New site now online!

Capella asked me to work as the faculty content lead on a new web project called Organizational Perspectives www.organizationalperspectives.org. This is a multi-disciplinary site that explores the intersection between HR leadership and management (School of Biz an Technology), Training and Development (School of Education) and Organizational Psychology (School of Psychology.) It will feature faculty work from all three schools as well as other resources and stories.

It just went live --can you help make it look lively? Come vist, log in and make a comment! Share ways you communicate and collaborate online, or ways you hire, motivate, train and develop people in your organization so they do a better job when they work together online.

The first feature is about—you guessed it—the Handbook of Research on Electronic Collaboration and Organizational Synergy! I highlighted two contributors, one who teaches at Capella and one who is her doctoral student—April Wall and Theresa Rich.

Please share the link to the site with anyone who might be interested.

Videoconferencing in remote First Nations

Here is an interesting example of videoconference as a research and networking tool!

The three aboiginal regional management organizations in Northern Manitoba, Northern Ontario (K-Net) and Northern Quebec have recently formed a consortium (Northern Indigenous Communities Satellite Network-NICSN) to extend satellite based broadband and thus videoconferencing capability into a number of other remote communities in the region with long term (11 year) support from the Canadian government. See:http://meeting.knet.ca/moodle/mod/resource/view.php?id=3467

Three new videos highlighting the importance of videoconferencing in First Nations are now available online for your viewing pleasure (click on the following videos to watch them)

Collaborative Integration Webinar

Online Collaborative Integration:

Handshake Working Across Disciplines

May 21 at 1 pm EST
(-5 hours GMT, see www.timeanddate.com for your time zone)

Janet Salmons, PhD and Lynn Wilson, PhD

FREE but registration is required at http://sas.elluminate.com/site/external/event/description?instance_id=11024

Join me and Lynn Wilson, my co- editor of the forthcoming Handbook of Research on Electronic Collaboration and Organizational Synergy, for a lively conversation!

We will present ourCollaborative Integration Paradigm and discuss examples of online collaboration in educational or workplace contexts. The Collaborative Integration Paradigm offers a conceptual framework for exploring fundamental questions about the collaborative process:

·         Why do people collaborate online?

·         Who are the collaborative partners (individuals or organizations)?

·         How do they communicate and organize collaborative work processes?

·         To what degree does their individual work mesh to create collective outcomes?

When we understand the nature of the project, the players and the goals, we can be more successful in planning complex collaborative work that bridges geographic, cultural and disciplinary boundaries. Bring your ideas, questions and dilemmas and participate in this interactive webinar.

See you online!

Janet
